The tones, the textures, the light – I just love this shot. As a big abstract, this is one of my favourites from one of my trips deep into Antelope Canyon, one of the most famous slot canyons in the world.
While others face forward and look at what’s in front of them, I make sure I look up every now and then. The focus of everyone else was the light train the sun created down below on the floor. I captured that too, but the result of looking up was that I managed to get what makes Antelope so stunning in one frame – the rock in there is simply amazing. The tiny glimmer of the strong summer sun was enough to provide a little flare for me in the corner of ‘the eye’, without washing out the key to this image – the textures and formation of the rock over thousands of years of water erosion.
Slot canyons are fun and great to photograph – just remember to sometimes look where people don’t tell you to focus…
