If volume of sweat is a measure of how much effort is put into something, this shot was probably my toughest yet.
Singapore is famous for many things, but the 100000% humidity is probably my most lasting memory of the place. I’ve visited this fantastic country many times over the years, but have never really considered it a “cityscape” destination. All shots of Marina Bay tended to focus on the Sands Casino complex and its unique architecture, not Singapore’s downtown skyline itself.
So in an effort to break the norm, while everyone else focused their cameras at the laser show that was due to start – I kept steady on the city itself. And I’m so glad I did – the flat water across the harbour and clear skies above the city made for a reflection that I couldn’t have imagined in this location only an hour before. It’s a city that is always changing, but I love the combination of original Singapore buildings near the water with the imposing skyscrapers behind. A true mix of cultures and styles, Singapore – you got me working (and sweating) for this shot.
