Such a fusion of energy, culture and architecture – Hong Kong is a truly unique city where East really does meet West.
While undoubtedly an iconic view, the harbour and skyline panorama from The Peak on Hong Kong Island has to be one that almost every visitor to the city has taken at some point. The challenge with here, however, is not the view itself, it’s the visibility and light. With the factories of mainland China spewing out their chemicals into the air surrounding this great city, the view is sadly often obscured by smog.
Getting the timing for the right light as well as a day with good visibility took several wasted trips beforehand to finally get this capture. It took a bit of faith in my tripod during the spell where all my equipment was hanging nearly 2ft over the edge of the viewing platform, but it meant an unobstructed view of below. While crowds made it up for what turned out to be a dramatic lighting display as each of the skyscrapers came to life, I somehow managed to get a stable picture of the city below along with the real glow of street-level energy within.
