As I said to my friend Chuck as we stood looking at this view: “Always remember that 50% of the world is behind you”.
People always look out to the sun itself when they want to capture a sunset image. Indeed, we’d been stood at Keys View in Joshua Tree National Park doing exactly that just minutes before I took this shot. It was only when I turned around to pack up and head to the car when I realised what had been happening to the sky above – it had lit up like a neon sign. I knew it wouldn’t be around for long, so ran down to get the road where I wanted it in the frame. Luckily no cars came along at just the right time to capture the amazing light we were gifted that evening.
It had been a long day getting there on our ‘road trip’, but with images like this the drive really does feel like it was worth it…
