For 6 years in a row, I’d driven past this lighthouse and never once managed to actually see it!
Of course, the phrase “right place, right time” was the key factor here, but to say I’d been feeling unlucky as a result of that run would be an understatement. So for one last time I drove down Route 1 (California’s Pacific Coast Highway) to a little town called Pescadero. Even if it had been blanketed in fog, it’s still a very cool drive with dramatic scenery and tiny little coves and beaches all the way along – so I wasn’t too upset at the prospect of once again not seeing this landmark building.
I guess this really did turn out to be my “if at first you don’t succeed” moment. Trying and trying again, I was finally witness to one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve seen along that stretch of coastline. Rich purples, the orange glow and the final pop of sunburst just before it disappeared behind the old houses that lead up to the lighthouse on the cliff.
Pigeon Point lighthouse had never shown itself to me before – turns out it was just waiting for the right moment.
